Sipping Green Potion

GREEN POTION

"Sipping green potion, Goodbye burgers, booze, and strife; Glowing from within."

Every year for the past decade, I've embarked on a significant detox after the holidays. The period from Halloween to New Year's is usually filled with wayyyy too many indulgences, leaving me eager to reset. However, by spring, I usually find myself slipping back into old habits.

This year, I decided to change things up and explore whether moderation, rather than complete deprivation, could lead to a more sustainable lifestyle change.

Enter my friend Gunter Dicki Fliszar, a rad drummer who also happens to be a dynamite health coach and has achieved remarkable results with his own transformation cleanse.

I reached out to him for his top tips, and his advice was simple: just start.

Doing mostly good is better than not doing anything at all.

You don't have to deprive yourself entirely.

With the pressure off, I was able to ease into the process and find my rhythm.

Instead of going completely dry in January, I opted for a damp approach. I let go of four of five dietary evils: dairy, sugar, wheat/gluten, and red meat. I allowed myself a glass of wine once a week instead of once a day.

Everything was going smoothly until last weekend.

We went to a county fair, and you know what that means: carny vibes scented with powdered sugar, fried dough, pretzels, popcorn, everything fried, everything sweet sprinkled with temptation along with barbecue, boba, and baked potatoes. This particular carnival was a date fest, and fried bacon-wrapped dates seemed to lure me at every turn between the coasters and '70s rides, which probably are the exact rides that I rode in my teens. Beer tents and taco carts called my name.

Somehow, I resisted and ended up with the only healthy choice in the entire fairgrounds: a pretty basic chicken taco with some rice topped with whipped avocado - what?? And guess what? I still had a blast at the fair.

Later on was another story. I did hop off the wagon and enjoyed some beautiful Central Coast red wine with our dear friends. Maybe more than a glass! Oops.

However, instead of getting completely derailed and giving up on my commitment to health, I jumped right back on the very next day, and I realized that I feel so much better when I make better choices.

If you're ready for some spring cleaning yourself, a group cleanse is starting next week, which includes free health coaching, plenty of community and support, and free workouts. DM me, and I'll give you the scoop!
